Steering Behaviors

A while ago someone posted a message on Flashcoders about the works of Craig Reynolds regarding the "Steering Behaviors For Autonomous Characters". There is a site where the basic ideas are explained and the concept sounds very interesting.

Basically it is about rules that control the motion of groups or flocks of elements. By applying various rules you get some very interesting motion patterns. Of course this whole issue is very tempting to be transfered to flash. So that is what I'm trying at the moment. During my research I found this german site steeringbehaviors.de where a group of students created a whole framework in Java. And what's best: the sourcecode is available for download. So the main task is now to convert all the Java classes to actionscript.

What I really worry about is that the final speed will be verryyyy loooowww.
