I just came across this page by ericlin which is a collection of his flash research, forum post, tutorials and sourcecodes.
There is some very interesting research [part 1 part 2 part 3 part 4] about the behavior of code inside movieclip instances during keyframed tweens, which might sound anachronistic in MX times, but still holds true.
